2023 Garden Reviews

Some kind words from our visitors;

Creek Garden

I wanted to thank you and all the volunteers for a such a well organised event. The gardens were all exquisite, and all very different from each other. It was so nice to sit at a table in the Forest Lodge Garden and catch up with friends over coffee. We loved walking around that extraordinary and historic garden. The Chilterns is a family-oriented garden, approachable and spacious. The stall there selling homemade food was excellent – especially the rocky road. St Ann’s and The Chestnuts were so elegant and impressive, and the owners clearly devote a huge amount of work to them.

What a fabulous day, loved every one of the gardens I was at the first garden before opening ready to make every minute count. A BIG thanks to all the volunteers who have given up their time and energy to make a very successful day. I know this does not happen without them. I bought some plants, yummy cakes and pickles and relish. Once again thanks for a great day.

Thank you all so very much for the delightful day visiting the Hidden Gardens last week. The team are to be congratulated on their hard work planning and convening the absolutely beautiful gardens. Thank you to the garden owners on preparing their gardens for their magnificent display.

On the beautiful autumn day that revealed the four fabulous secret gardens in my own backyard, “the whole world seemed to devote itself to being radiantly beautiful and kind”, just as Frances Hogden Burnett wrote in her Secret Garden. What a wonderful event! Having lived in the Adelaide Hills all my life, I am still able to be surprised and enchanted by secrets hidden. Thank you to the custodians of those botanical masterpieces who so generously shared them with us and thanks also to the dedicated army of volunteers who help to nurture them and make the day so special. Thank you also to my wonderful friend Karyn for my ticket. We can’t wait for 2024.

I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for hosting such a generous and stunning event. This is my second year and it is the highlight of my calendar for the year! I would like to say thank you to the organizers for the mobile toilets at Forest Lodge. A god send for the mature gardener. What a beautiful spread of food from the volunteers. A wealth of plants to choose from at St Ann’s. A heart felt thank you to the owners of the four gorgeous properties opened to us to enjoy. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

Tall Trees

My sister and I loved attending the four gardens on show at Carrick Hill’s Hidden Gardens event last Thursday. All the gardens were so different (other than the fact they were all so lush, such a contrast to the plains) which reflected a lot of thought by all responsible for selecting the gardens. They all demonstrated mountains of work to maintain them – the weeding alone daunted me! The range of flowers, perfumes, trees and vegetables were a joy to see. And we were impressed with all the volunteers you mustered to help on the day – plus for weeks beforehand considering the great range of pickles and jams for sale + the cakes and sausage rolls. A great day – and the weather was a bonus.

Thank you and your wonderful team of Volunteers for a really great day on 19th October 2023. I want to congratulate all your happy volunteers on that day, for all the work they did. The whole event was SO professionally run. Four of us visited the four privately owned gardens, St. Anns, The Chestnuts, Chilterns and Forest Lodge and all so different, varied in their layout, and just amazingly so different from gardens down here on the plains. What amazed us were the size of the rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, etc some like trees! Also, the height of the amazing English trees everywhere! We were able to have a delicious snack lunch in one of the gardens, under the trees; there was a delicious produce stall in another garden, and plants for sale and bric a brac in another. Everywhere we went people had smiles and were happy with everything!
